Look, as a millennial, I have to say that I love the idea of online shopping. Being able to look at products that I want before I order them or go out in person to buy them has really helped minimize the amount of buyer’s remorse that I experience. But that doesn’t mean that I love online shopping all together. Sometimes, businesses drop the ball and lose out on one more customer because they make these mistakes. Here are 5 things I hate about online shopping.
1. Poorly Designed Websites
Have you ever visited a website looking for a specific product or service, but the website was such a mess that you just ended up going back to Google and starting over?
That happened to me recently when I visited the website for a local barber shop looking for some prices before booking an appointment.
What I found was a mess of a website that featured about 40 different services spread out into 12 different ‘service’ pages that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. The website was difficult to navigate, their prices weren’t clear, and ultimately the website was such a mess that I just decided to try a different barber shop.
Needless to say that businesses that have a poorly designed website turn me away instantly.
2. Slow Loading Times
In addition to a messy website, a website that takes forever to load is a no-go.
I’d like to think that when it comes to most things, I have a lot of patience. I don’t mind waiting a little while to get a table at a busy restaurant, and I don’t mind holding on the phone while I wait to speak with a representative from my bank.
But all of that seems to go out the window when I’m sitting on my phone or laptop waiting for a website to load.
There’s something about an ecommerce website that takes too long to load that makes me not have a lot of confidence in shopping there. Either the website is unsecure or the product images won’t completely load.
Just like a messy website, I tend to give up on the website entirely and go check out another website all together when this happens.
3. No Enough Online Support
By far one of my biggest annoyances with online shopping is when a business drops the ball when it comes to online customer support.
Recently, I reached out to a business on Facebook messenger to ask if they were open or what their store hours were in light of the COVID-19 shutdown. I asked a simple question: “Hey! Are you guys open today?”
No response for two hours. When I finally did get a response from somebody at the business, the answer I received was, “Yes, my guy should have put a sign on the door, is he not there?”
Anyways, while they figure that out, I think I’m just better off shopping somewhere else.
